United Steel Supply plans to invest up to $10 million to open a steel processing and painting facility at the Ports of Indiana-Jeffersonville near Louisville, Ky.
The Austin, Texas-based steel distributor and processor said its new location will create as many as 20 jobs. Renovations will begin immediately, with initial operations slated to start in early Q3.
“We’re very pleased to join the growth-minded ecosystem at Jeffersonville and enter a long-term partnership with Ports of Indiana,” Bret Curtis, president of United Steel Supply, said in a statement.
The company purchased a 100,000-square-foot building from the port and entered a 75-year land lease on 11.5 acres. Steel Dynamics Inc.’s (SDI) Jeffersonville, Ind., plant will be a key supplier for the United Steel Supply operation, as it is located just a quarter mile away, according to the statement.
This will be United Steel Supply’s fifth facility. It also has operations in Mississippi, Oregon, Texas, and Terre Haute, Ind.
United Steel Supply, a privately held company, has operated as a joint venture with Fort Wayne, Ind.-based SDI since 2019. It distributes Galvalume, galvanized, pre-painted, and digital print-patterned steel coils for use primarily in the metal roofing and metal building industry.
