AISI: US steel shipments slip y/y in March

March US steel mill shipments were down on-year but up sequentially, according to the most recent American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) data.
Domestic steel mills shipped 7,338,349 short tons (st) in March, down 5.7% from 7,779,430 st a year earlier. However, shipments were up 3.4% from 7,097,512 st in February, AISI said.
Year-to-date (YTD) shipments through March 2024 were 21,820,310 st, off 3.6% from 2023 shipments of 22,638,542 st in the same period.
Comparing Q1’24 shipments to Q1’23 shows cold-rolled sheet up 4%, corrosion-resistant steel down 3%, and hot-rolled steel down 3%.

Domestic HR, offshore prices decline
