JSW Follows Other Plate Mills, Raises Prices $120/ton

JSW Steel (USA) Inc. has increased base prices for plate by at least $120 per ton ($6 per cwt).
The U.S. subsidiary of India’s JSW Group said the price hike was effective immediately for all new, non-contract orders.
“This increase applies to our as-rolled and normalized plate products. Our full published extras will also remain in effect,” the company said in a letter to customers dated Friday, July 30.
JSW Steel (USA)’s increase follows triple-digit price hikes announced by other U.S. mills.
The company operates a plate mill in Baytown, Texas, and a sheet mill in Mingo Junction, Ohio.
Plate prices stood at $1,645 per ton ($82.25 per cwt) when this article was filed. That’s up 88% from $875 per ton at the beginning of this year and approaching triple $590 per ton in early August 2020, according to SMU’s interactive pricing tool.
