SMU Price Ranges & Indices: Flat Rolled Up Another $10-40

Spot tons of flat rolled steel are still in short supply, report respondents to Steel Market Update’s check of the market this week. Any tons that are available command a rising premium. Flat rolled prices increased by another $10-40 per ton, with some reporting hot rolled offers as high as $1,900, though HRC saw a rather modest bump of just $10 from last week. Plate prices are up another $70 per ton, reflecting recent mill price hikes. Steel Market Update’s Price Momentum Indicators continue to point toward higher steel prices over the next 30 days.
Hot Rolled Coil: SMU price range is $1,820-$1,900 per net ton ($91.00-$95.00/cwt) with an average of $1,860 per ton ($93.00/cwt) FOB mill, east of the Rockies. The lower end of our range increased $20 per ton compared to one week ago, while the upper end remained unchanged. Our overall average is up $10 per ton from last week. Our price momentum on hot rolled steel is Higher, meaning prices are expected to rise in the next 30 days.
Hot Rolled Lead Times: 9-13 weeks
Cold Rolled Coil: SMU price range is $2,040-$2,160 per net ton ($102.00-$108.00/cwt) with an average of $2,100 per ton ($105.00/cwt) FOB mill, east of the Rockies. Both the upper and lower ends of our range increased $40 per ton compared to last week. Our overall average is up $40 per ton from one week ago. Our price momentum on cold rolled steel is Higher, meaning prices are expected to rise in the next 30 days.
Cold Rolled Lead Times: 10-14 weeks
Galvanized Coil: SMU price range is $2,000-$2,160 per net ton ($100.00-$108.00/cwt) with an average of $2,080 per ton ($104.00/cwt) FOB mill, east of the Rockies. The lower end of our range remained the same compared to one week ago, while the upper end increased $40 per ton. Our overall average is up $20 per ton from last week. Our price momentum on galvanized steel is Higher, meaning prices are expected to rise in the next 30 days.
Galvanized .060” G90 Benchmark: SMU price range is $2,069-$2,229 per ton with an average of $2,149 per ton FOB mill, east of the Rockies.
Galvanized Lead Times: 12-15 weeks
Galvalume Coil: SMU price range is $2,050-$2,140 per net ton ($102.50-$107.00/cwt) with an average of $2,095 per ton ($104.75/cwt) FOB mill, east of the Rockies. Both the upper and lower ends of our range increased $20 per ton compared to last week. Our overall average is up $20 per ton from one week ago. Our price momentum on Galvalume steel is Higher, meaning prices are expected to rise in the next 30 days.
Galvalume .0142” AZ50, Grade 80 Benchmark: SMU price range is $2,341-$2,431 per ton with an average of $2,386 per ton FOB mill, east of the Rockies.
Galvalume Lead Times: 12-14 weeks
Plate: SMU price range is $1,560-$1,730 per net ton ($78.00-$86.50/cwt) with an average of $1,645 per ton ($82.25/cwt) FOB mill. The lower end of our range increased $120 per ton compared to one week ago, while the upper end increased $20. Our overall average is up $70 per ton from one week ago. Our price momentum on plate steel is Higher, meaning prices are expected to rise in the next 30 days.
Plate Lead Times: 6-10 weeks
