SMU Community Chat

Wednesday's Community Chat to Welcome Analyst Timna Tanners
Written by Michael Cowden
June 1, 2021
Steel Market Update is pleased to announce that Timna Tanners, metals and mining analyst at Bank of America, will be the featured speaker for our next Community Chat webinar on Wednesday, June 9, at 11 a.m. ET.
Tanners will speak about the steel industry of the future. That future is likely to include an increased role for electric arc furnace (EAF) steelmakers in the automotive industry. And it’s likely to be bright for plate, which could benefit more than coil from infrastructure spending – especially should offshore wind farms become a focus of federal dollars.
She will also discuss her registered and trademarked “Steelmageddon®” hypothesis, which has captured the imagination – and the ire – of the steel industry. Is Steelmageddon® still our fate, or has the COVID-19 pandemic and the ensuing economic rebound changed the calculus? In other words, is this time different? Or is “normal” waiting until 2022 to serve its revenge cold?
Tune in and find out!
The 45-minute webinar will be free and open to all who register, which you can do by clicking here.
Also, SMU has posted a recording of last week’s webinar with Steel Manufacturers Association (SMA) President Philip K. Bell as well as slides presented by both Bell and SMU Senior Editor Michael Cowden.
That recording as well as recordings and presentations from prior Community Chat webinars can be found by clicking here.
