North Star BlueScope Slates April, June Outages Amid Expansion Work

Written by Michael Cowden

North Star BlueScope will take a planned outage in April at its flat-rolled steel mill in Delta, Ohio, a company spokesman said.

The company normally has outages in the spring and fall. The outages will be 3-7 days in duration, he said.

This year North Star BlueScope will split the spring outage between April and June to coordinate with expansion project work. The fall outage is scheduled for November, the spokesman said.northstar bluescope

“The outage schedule is communicated well in advance to allow customers time to adjust their order patterns,” he said.

North Star BlueScope’s expansion project, which entails adding a third EAF and second caster, is expected to boost capacity by approximately 1 million short tons (850,000 metric tons or 936,965 short tons), according to an investor presentation.

The facility currently has capacity of 2.3 million tons per year, according to the Association for Iron and Steel Technology’s 2021 directory of iron and steel plants.
