SMU Price Ranges & Indices: Flat Rolled, Plate Up Another $5-15

Steel prices continue to see some upward momentum as flat rolled and plate prices rose by another $5-15 per ton, according to Steel Market Update’s check of the market this week. The mills announced further $40-50 price hikes on plate on Monday and Tuesday in hopes of sustaining that momentum.
Here is how we see prices this week:
Hot Rolled Coil: SMU price range is $590-$620 per net ton ($29.50-$31.00/cwt) with an average of $605 per ton ($30.25/cwt) FOB mill, east of the Rockies. The lower end of our range increased $10 per ton compared to one week ago, while the upper end remained the same. Our overall average is up $5 per ton from last week. Our price momentum on hot rolled steel is Higher, meaning prices are expected to rise in the next 30 days.
Hot Rolled Lead Times: 4-6 weeks
Cold Rolled Coil: SMU price range is $750-$800 per net ton ($37.50-$40.00/cwt) with an average of $775 per ton ($38.75/cwt) FOB mill, east of the Rockies. The lower end of our range increased $10 per ton compared to last week, while the upper end increased $20. Our overall average is up $15 per ton from one week ago. Our price momentum on cold rolled steel is Higher, meaning prices are expected to rise in the next 30 days.
Cold Rolled Lead Times: 5-10 weeks
Galvanized Coil: SMU price range is $760-$810 per net ton ($38.00-$40.50/cwt) with an average of $785 per ton ($39.25/cwt) FOB mill, east of the Rockies. The lower end of our range increased $20 per ton compared to one week ago, while the upper end increased $10. Our overall average is up $15 per ton from last week. Our price momentum on galvanized steel is Higher, meaning prices are expected to rise in the next 30 days.
Galvanized .060” G90 Benchmark: SMU price range is $829-$879 per ton with an average of $854 per ton FOB mill, east of the Rockies.
Galvanized Lead Times: 6-12 weeks
Galvalume Coil: SMU price range is $790-$830 per net ton ($39.50-$41.50/cwt) with an average of $810 per ton ($40.50/cwt) FOB mill, east of the Rockies. Both the lower and upper ends of our range increased $10 per ton compared to last week. Our overall average is up $10 per ton from one week ago. Our price momentum on Galvalume steel is Higher, meaning prices are expected to rise in the next 30 days.
Galvalume .0142” AZ50, Grade 80 Benchmark: SMU price range is $1,081-$1,121 per ton with an average of $1,101 per ton FOB mill, east of the Rockies.
Galvalume Lead Times: 7-10 weeks
Plate: SMU price range is $620-$650 per net ton ($31.00-$32.50/cwt) with an average of $635 per ton ($31.75/cwt) FOB delivered to the customer’s facility. The lower end of our range increased $30 per ton compared to one week ago, while the upper end remained the same. Our overall average is up $15 per ton from last week. Our price momentum on plate steel is Higher, meaning prices are expected to rise in the next 30 days.
Plate Lead Times: 5-6 weeks
