SMU Steel Summit 2020: New Speakers & Attending Companies
Written by Brett Linton
July 8, 2020
Quite a bit has happened over the past two days as we have added new speakers and have had quite a few new registrations for the 2020 SMU Virtual Steel Summit Conference.
First the speakers: SMU is pleased to announce the addition of Mark Millett, President & CEO of Steel Dynamics, and Maximo Vedoya, CEO of Ternium. We have also added an elections expert that we have personally heard speak. Dr. David Schultz has written 30 books and has been interviewed by many major publications and news outlets regarding his analysis of the electoral process, key states (and districts within those states) and what will turn the 2020 presidential and congressional races. He is a professor at Hamline University and the University of Minnesota Law School. SMU has also added Michael Setterdahl who is a member of the Global Advisory Board for the GFG Alliance, and Jose Gasca, Managing Director of Metrading International AG. Lastly, we’ve added David Everett, Associate Vice President of Inclusive Excellence at Hamline University. You can view all of our speakers and their biographies by clicking here.
One strength of any Steel Market Update conference is the networking. We already have a strong list of registered companies and we continue to add more each and every day. We are near to 400 registered attendees and our goal is to be as close to the turnout we had last year (1,108) as possible. The key for everyone to understand is that there is a way to network within our platform, and we think the uniqueness of the process will prove to be interesting and fun.
Here is a listing of the companies registered as of this week. Note that those companies with an * after their name means more than one person is attending. If your company is missing, or if you have questions about your registration, please contact Events@SteelMarketUpdate.com. You can view more conference details and register here on our website.

Worthington Enterprises’ earnings dip in fiscal Q2’25
Worthington Enterprises' profits edged down in its fiscal second quarter of 205 vs. a year earlier. The company said a slump in sales in the quarter was due largely to the "deconsolidation" of the Sustainable Energy Solutions segment in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2024.
Final Thoughts
It's that time of year again. You know, that time when people wonder if those things are drones in New Jersey or if the aliens are ready to come onto the stage just in time for Inauguration Day. What will that do for steel price volatility? In any case, the SMU team finds itself in Pittsburgh this week.
