SMU Price Ranges & Indices: More Down Than Up

Steel prices continue to lack a clear direction, as Steel Market Update keeps its price momentum at Neutral. SMU’s canvass of the market over the past two days shows hot rolled prices unchanged, cold rolled up and coated steels down. Plate prices also saw a small decrease.
Here is how we see prices this week:
Hot Rolled Coil: SMU price range is $560-$600 per ton ($28.00-$30.00/cwt) with an average of $580 per ton ($29.00/cwt) FOB mill, east of the Rockies. Both the lower and upper ends of our range remained the same compared to one week ago. Our overall average is unchanged over last week. Our price momentum on hot rolled steel is Neutral, meaning we expect prices to remain steady over the next 30 days.
Hot Rolled Lead Times: 3-5 weeks
Cold Rolled Coil: SMU price range is $740-$790 per ton ($37.00-$39.50/cwt) with an average of $765 per ton ($38.25/cwt) FOB mill, east of the Rockies. The lower end of our range increased $20 per ton compared to last week, while the upper end increased $30 per ton. Our overall average is up $25 per ton over one week ago. Our price momentum on cold rolled steel is Neutral, meaning we expect prices to remain steady over the next 30 days.
Cold Rolled Lead Times: 5-8 weeks
Galvanized Coil: SMU base price range is $36.00-$39.50/cwt ($720-$790 per ton) with an average of $37.75/cwt ($755 per ton) FOB mill, east of the Rockies. The lower end of our range decreased $30 per ton compared to one week ago, while the upper end remained unchanged. Our overall average is down $15 per ton over last week. Our price momentum on galvanized steel is Neutral, meaning we expect prices to remain steady over the next 30 days.
Galvanized .060” G90 Benchmark: SMU price range is $789-$859 per net ton with an average of $824 per ton FOB mill, east of the Rockies.
Galvanized Lead Times: 4-8 weeks
Galvalume Coil: SMU base price range is $36.50-$39.50/cwt ($730-$790 per ton) with an average of $38.00/cwt ($760 per ton) FOB mill, east of the Rockies. The lower end of our range decreased $50 per ton compared to last week, while the upper end decreased $10 per ton. Our overall average is down $30 per ton over one week ago. Our price momentum on Galvalume steel is Neutral, meaning we expect prices to remain steady over the next 30 days.
Galvalume .0142” AZ50, Grade 80 Benchmark: SMU price range is $1,021-$1,081 per net ton with an average of $1,051 per ton FOB mill, east of the Rockies.
Galvalume Lead Times: 6-9 weeks
Plate: SMU price range is $660-$710 per ton ($33.00-$35.50/cwt) with an average of $685 per ton ($34.25/cwt) FOB delivered to the customer’s facility. The lower end of our range decreased $30 per ton compared to one week ago, while the upper end remained the same. Our overall average is down $15 per ton over last week. Our price momentum on plate steel is Neutral, meaning we expect prices to remain steady over the next 30 days
Plate Lead Times: 4-5 weeks
