Preliminary July Imports at 3.47 Million Tons
Written by John Packard
August 31, 2017
The U.S. Department of Commerce released Preliminary July import data as well as August license requests through the 29th of the month. The July Preliminary Census number has foreign steel imports as being 3,471,614 net tons. This is down from the June 3.9 million ton level. However, what continues to be concerning is the August projected number of 3.6 million tons.
When looking at the numbers for just finished steels the reduction is much less evident. July finished imports totaled 2,885,527 net tons while August license data suggests a mild reduction of finished steels. August finished is now forecast to be around 2.7 million tons.
