Canadian Distributor Sheet Inventories & Shipments in June

Canadian shipments for all steel products in the month of June were 374,100 net tons, a decrease of 3.7 percent from the month before and a decrease of 14.4 percent from June 2015. Inventories at the end of the month stood at 1,120,500 tons, down 2.6 percent from last month and down 26.0 percent from the same month one year ago.
The daily average receipt rate for June was 15,650 tons per day (22 day month), up from 12,790 tons per day in May (21 day month). Total June receipts were 75,700 tons higher than the May figure. According to the MSCI, total steel product inventories stood at 3.0 months at the end of June, unchanged from the month before.
Flat Rolled
Canadian shipments of flat rolled products for the month of June were 220,700 tons, a decrease of 4.9 percent from May and a decrease of 14.8 percent from the same month one year ago. Inventories at the end of the month were 648,500 tons, down 4.0 percent from last month and down 33.1 percent from the same month one year ago. The daily receipt rate for June was 8,805 tons per day, down from 9,786 tons per day in May. Total tonnage received was 193,700 tons, down from 205,500 tons the month before. Flat rolled inventories stood at 2.9 months in June, unchanged from May.
Plate
Canadian shipments for plate products in the month of June were 68,600 tons, a decrease of 4.7 percent from the previous month and a decrease of 11.7 percent from June 2015. Inventories at the end of the month were 199,200 tons, up 0.8 percent from last month but down 20.4 percent from the same month one year ago. The daily average receipt rate for June was 3,186 tons per day, down from 3,386 tons per day the month before. Plate inventories ended the month at 2.9 months, up from 2.7 months the month prior.
Pipe and Tube
Canadian shipments for pipe and tube products in the month of June were 40,100 tons, a decrease of 4.1 percent from the month before and a decrease of 25.1 percent from the same month last year. Inventories at the end of the month were 127,000 tons, down 0.8 percent from last month and down 8.9 percent from the same month one year ago. The daily average receipt rate for June was 1,777 tons per day, down from 2,095 tons per day the month before. Total months on hand for pipe and tube inventories stood at 3.2 months, up from 3.1 months at the end of May.
