March Steel Exports Down 13.8% YOY

March steel exports totaled 896,027 net tons (812,863 metric tons), up 2.0 percent over February but down 13.8 percent from March 2014. Total March figures are below both the thee month moving average (3MMA, average of January 2015 through March 2015 figures) and the twelve month moving average (12MMA, average of April 2014 through March 2015 data). Here is a breakdown of flat rolled and plate exports:
Cut plate exports increased 14.3 percent from February to March to 114,561 tons, but were down 0.7 percent compared to levels one year prior.
Exports of coiled plate were 29,369 tons in March, down 9.3 percent month over month and down 44.8 percent year over year.
Hot rolled steel exports increased 7.7 percent month over month to 52,824 tons, but were down 22.7 percent from March 2014 levels.
Exports of cold rolled products were 59,583 tons in March, up 2.3 from February and up 8.1 over the same month last year.
Galvanized exports declined 5.6 percent month over month to 108,085 tons. Compared to one year ago, March levels were down 13.1 percent.
Exports of all other metallic coated products came in at 23,791 tons, a 16.4 percent increase from last month but a 20.8 percent decrease compared to one year ago.
