Canadian Service Center Shipments and Inventories in June

Canadian shipments for all steel products in the month of June were 481,000 net tons, a decrease of 5.6 percent from the month before, but an increase of 6.0 percent from June 2013. Inventories at the end of the month stood at 1,391,100 tons, up 0.4 percent from last month but down 6.3 percent from the same month one year ago. The daily average receipt rate for June was 23,171 tons (21 day month), up from 22,097 tons the month before (21 day month). Total June receipts were 24,400 tons higher than the May figure. According to the MSCI, total months on hand stood at 2.9 months on an unadjusted and seasonally-adjusted basis.
Flat Rolled
Canadian shipments of flat rolled products for the month of June were 241,800 tons, a decrease of 6.9 percent from the month before, but an increase of 8.2 percent from the same month one year ago. Inventories at the end of the month were 691,900 tons, down 1.4 percent from last month and down 19.4 percent from the same month one year ago. The daily receipt rate for June was 11034 tons, up from 10,237 tons the month before. Total tonnage received was 232,000 tons, up from 214,400 tons the month before. At the end of June, flat rolled inventories stood at 2.9 months on an unadjusted and seasonally-adjusted basis.
Plate
Canadian shipments for plate products in the month of June were 90,600 tons, a decrease of 6.0 percent from the month before, but an increase of 1.6 percent from June 2013. Inventories at the end of the month were 281,700 tons, an increase of 8.5 percent from last month and an increase of 12.5 percent from the same month one year ago. The daily average receipt rate for June was 5,355 tons, up from 4,273 tons the month before. Plate inventories stood at 3.1 months on an unadjusted and seasonally-adjusted basis.
Pipe and Tube
Canadian shipments for pipe and tube products in the month of June were 55,300 tons, an increase of 0.2 percent from the month before and an increase of 2.6 percent from the same month last year. Inventories at the end of the month were 145,100 tons, down 2.1 percent from last month, but up 10.3 percent from the same month one year ago. The daily average receipt rate for June was 2,483 tons, down from 2,999 tons the month before. At the end of June, total months on hand for pipe and tube inventories stood at 2.6 months unadjusted or 2.8 months on a seasonally-adjusted basis.
