Canadian Service Center Shipments and Inventory in January

Canadian service center shipments for all steel products were reported at 495,300 net tons (NT) in January, up 42.0 percent over December 2013 shipments but down 5.2 percent from January 2013 figures.
With 22 shipping days in January, daily shipments are calculated to have been 22,500 tons per day, up from 17,400 tons per day the previous month. Inventory grew in January to 1,410,300 NT, up 3.3 percent from the previous month but down 20.5 percent from January 2013 tonnage. Total steel receipts rose month-over-month to 540,700 NT, with an average daily receipt rate of 24,482 NT, up from 22,845 NT the previous month.
Flat Rolled
Flat rolled shipments were reported at 258,400 NT in January, up 41.7 percent over December shipments but down 3.5 percent from January 2013 figures. Daily shipments were calculated at 11,700 tons per day, up from 9,100 tons per day the previous month. Inventory grew in January to 756,900 NT, up 4.7 percent from the previous month but down 31.2 percent from January 2013 tonnage. Flat rolled receipts increased to 292,600 NT, with an average daily receipt rate of 13,249 NT, up from 13,085 NT the previous month.
