Canadian Service Center Shipments and Inventory

Canadian service center shipments for all steel products were reported at 348,700 net tons (NT) in December, down 26.3 percent over November figures but up 3.0 percent from December 2012 shipments. With 20 shipping days in December, daily shipments are calculated to have been 17,400 tons per day, down from 23,700 tons per day the previous month. Inventory grew in December to 1,364,900 NT, up 8.6 percent from the previous month but down 25.5 percent from December 2012 tonnage. Total steel receipts fell month-over-month to 456,900 NT, with an average daily receipt rate of 22,845 NT, down from 24,200 NT the previous month.
Flat Rolled
Flat rolled shipments were reported at 182,400 NT in December, down 26.0 percent over November figures but up 10.8 percent from December 2012 shipments. Daily shipments are calculated to have been 9,100 tons per day, down from 12,300 tons per day the previous month. Inventory grew in December to 722,700 NT, up 12.3 percent from the previous month but down 35.6 percent from December 2012 tonnage. Flat rolled receipts increased to 261,700 NT, with an average daily receipt rate of 13,085 NT, up from 11,850 NT the previous month.
Plate
Steel plate shipments were reported at 63,700 NT in December, down 25.0 percent over November figures and down 10.4 percent from December 2012 shipments. Daily shipments are calculated to have been 3,200 tons per day, down from 4,200 tons per day the previous month. Inventory grew in December to 259,000 NT, up 11.7 percent from the previous month but down 20.6 percent from December 2012 tonnage. Plate receipts increased to 90,900 NT, with an average daily receipt rate of 4,545 NT, up slightly from 4,535 NT the previous month
Pipe and Tube
Shipments of pipe and tube products were reported at 37,800 NT in December, down 25.9 percent over November figures but up 1.1 percent from December 2012 shipments. Daily shipments are calculated to have been 1,900 tons per day, down from 2,600 tons per day the previous month. Inventory grew in December to 141,300 NT, up 3.6 percent from the previous month and up 5.8 percent from December 2012 tonnage. Pipe and tube receipts fell to 42,700 NT, with an average daily receipt rate of 2,135 NT, down from 2,890 NT the previous month.
