Residential Storage Water Heaters
U.S. shipments of residential gas storage water heaters for September 2013 increased 18.1 percent, to 333,392 units, up from 282,335 units shipped in September 2012. Residential electric storage water heater shipments increased 10.6 percent in September 2013, to 304,310 units, up from 275,092 units shipped in September 2012.
For the year-to-date, U.S. shipments of residential gas storage water heaters increased 10.8 percent, to 3,169,378, compared to 2,860,973 units shipped during the same period in 2012. Residential electric storage water heater shipments increased 7.7 percent year-to-date, to 2,970,038 units, compared to 2,758,520 units shipped during the same period in 2012.
Commercial Storage Water Heaters
Commercial gas storage water heater shipments increased 4.7 percent in September 2013 to 6,448 units, up from 6,159 units shipped in September 2012. Commercial electric storage water heater shipments increased 1.6 percent in September 2013, to 5,489 units, up from 5,403 units shipped in September 2012.
Year-to-date U.S. shipments of commercial gas storage water heaters increased 12.8 percent to 67,408 units, compared with 59,761 units shipped during the same period in 2012. Year-to-date commercial electric storage water heater shipments decreased 0.8 percent to 51,437 units, down from 51,876 units shipped during the same period in 2012.
Warm Air Furnaces
U.S. shipments of gas warm air furnaces for September 2013 increased 6.8 percent to 245,656 units, up from 230,072 units shipped in September 2012. Oil warm air furnace shipments decreased 17.6 percent to 4,674 units in September 2013, down from 5,673 units shipped in September 2012.
Year-to-date U.S. shipments of gas warm air furnaces increased 17.4 percent to 1,829,082 units, compared with 1,557,805 units shipped during the same period in 2012. Year-to-date U.S. shipments of oil warm air furnaces decreased 11.5 percent to 20,657, compared with 23,352 units shipped during the same period in 2012.
Central Air Conditioners and Air-Source Heat Pumps
U.S. shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps totaled 416,179 units in September 2013, up 17 percent from 355,806 units shipped in September 2012. U.S. shipments of air conditioners increased 17.7 percent to 283,307 units, up from 240,770 units shipped in September 2012. U.S. shipments of air-source heat pumps increased 15.5 percent to 132,872 units, up from 115,036 units shipped in September 2012.
Year-to-date combined shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps increased 9.6 percent to 5,176,909 units, up from 4,724,328 units shipped in September 2012. Year-to-date shipments of central air conditioners increased 6.9 percent to 3,563,835 units, up from 3,332,990 units shipped during the same period in 2012. The year-to-date total for heat pump shipments increased 15.9 percent to 1,613,074 units, up from 1,391,338 units shipped during the same period in 2012.
