Michael Garcia, CEO of Algoma Steel, was the featured speaker on SMU’s recent Community Chat webinar.
As a key Canadian flat-rolled steel producer and supplier to the US, Algoma offered valuable insight into the evolving tariff landscape — its challenges and opportunities.
During the chat, we discussed trends in the North American sheet and plate markets, as well as the unique aspects of the Canadian market. We talked all things tariffs — and the timing couldn’t have been better in the wake of yesterday’s Liberation Day.
We also explored Algoma’s transition from blast furnace to EAF steelmaker, a transformation nearing a key milestone with the first arc in furnace one and first steel production still on track for April.
