SMU Community Chat with Alan Price of Wiley

Guests: Alan Price

Alan Price, partner and international trade co-chair at Wiley, was the featured speaker on SMU’s recent Community Chat webinar.

Wonder what the fallout from all the Trump tariffs might be? A manufacturing renaissance? A post-WWII order in ashes? Or something a little more down the middle?

What we talked about

This reboot of Section 232 means 25% tariffs on all imports of steel and aluminum. No quotas. No exceptions. In fact, the tariffs will stretch further downstream than in 2018 and feature an addition process rather than an exemption one.

We also talked about all the other pending Trump tariffs – blanket tariffs of 25% on all imports from Canada and Mexico, sectoral tariffs on things like automobiles and lumber, and reciprocal tariffs on VATs.

And what about retaliation from other nations for US tariffs? And potential US retaliation to those retaliatory measures. We discussed all that, not to mention the other important AD/CVD case on coated flat-rolled steel.

Where does it end? What’s real, and what’s just posturing?

Why should you listen?

Alan is well-connected, knows this stuff like the back of his hand, and will be in a great position to tell you what that latest tariff news means for your business.
