For the fourth week in a row, Nucor will keep its published spot price for hot-rolled (HR) coil unchanged.
Nucor’s weekly consumer spot price (CSP) for HR will be $750 per short ton (st) this week, the steelmaker said in a letter to customers on Monday.
The CSP has been at $750/st since the week of Nov. 12, according to SMU’s mill price announcement calendar. Before that, it spent two weeks at $740/st. It’s now risen $100/st since bottoming at $650/st in mid-July.
The published CSP has been higher than average transaction prices for HR purchased on the spot market, according to buyers. In our Nov. 26 market check, SMU pegged HR coil spot prices at $620-720/st, with an average price of $670/st.
CSI CSP
Nucor said on Monday that its CSP in the West Coast market is also unchanged this week.
The spot price for HR coil from joint-venture subsidiary California Steel Industries (CSI) remains at $810/st this week.
CSI’s CSP has risen by just $30/st since mid-October.
