Gerdau Long Steel North America plans to acquire the assets of Dale’s Recycling Partnership.
Brazil-based longs producer Gerdau announced that its US subsidiary has signed an agreement to purchase the assets of Dale’s operations in Tennessee, Kentucky, and Missouri.
The $60-million purchase includes the land, inventory, and fixed assets of the ferrous scrap operator, processor, and recycler.
“This acquisition aims to increase capture of captive ferrous scrap by Gerdau through proprietary channels, supplying raw material to its operations at a competitive cost,” Gerdau SA said in a notice to the market.
According to Gerdau’s website, its Metals Recycling group currently operates 24 scrap yards and five shredders in the US and Canada. It is unclear how many locations this acquisition will add to Gerdau’s recycling operations.
Gerdau Long Steel North America, formerly known as Gerdau Ameristeel, produces various long products, including merchant bar, rebar, structural steel, piling, and wide-flange beams.
The Gerdau mill nearest to Dale’s Recycling operations is in Jackson, Miss. It has an annual capacity of ~550,000 short tons, producing merchant bar, SBQ, and rebar products.
Gerdau did not immediately respond to a request for more information.
