GM Makes Sixth Contract Offer to UAW

October 5, 2023
General Motors made its sixth contract offer to the United Auto Workers (UAW) as the union continues its strike against all three Detroit-area automakers.
“We can confirm that we provided a counteroffer to the UAW’s most recent proposal – our sixth since the start of negotiations,” a GM spokesman said in a statement to SMU on Thursday.
“We believe we have a compelling offer that would reward our team members and allow GM to succeed and thrive into the future,” he added.
Further details of the offer were not disclosed. However, a source familiar with the talks said there had been movement in a “few key areas,” according to an article in Reuters on Thursday.
“We continue to stand ready and willing to negotiate in good faith 24/7 to reach an agreement,” the GM spokesman said.
The strike targeting specific plants of the Detroit 3 began on Sept. 15.
The UAW did not return a request for comment by time of publication.
UAW said on Thursday on X, formerly Twitter, that union president Shawn Fain will be making a Facebook Live announcement on Friday at 2 p.m. ET. In previous Facebook Live events, he has announced expansions of the strike.
