Atlas Tube, part of Zekelman Industries, has partnered with Mobility Worldwide for over 10 years to provide mobility carts to those in need globally, and said it will continue to dedicate resources where needed.
“When Zekelman Industries acquired the assets of EXLTUBE based in North Kansas City, Mo., in November 2022, we were well aware of their long history of making charitable donations to the Missouri branch of Mobility Worldwide,” Jeff Cole, president of Chicago–based tube and pipe manufacturer Atlas, said in a statement on July 19.
Atlas Tube donates steel tubing that goes to Mobility Worldwide’s facility in Columbia, Mo. This year, the location has produced over 30,000 units. Over half of the units utilized were made possible by Atlas’ donation, according to the statement.
“Our work would not be possible without structural steel tubes and the support of Atlas Tube in Kansas City, which has allowed us to make more than 16,000 mobility carts in their 10 years of making donations,” Gary Moreau, executive director of Mobility Worldwide MO-Columbia, said.
The cart manufacturer uses 14-gauge tubing from Atlas, which is cut and welded to produce the main support frame and front fork of the mobility carts, the company said. The tubes are also used to make brake handles and pull tongues.
Zekelman Industries is a family of companies including Atlas Tube, Picoma, Sharon Tube, Wheatland Tube, Western Tube, and Z Modular that produce hollow structural steel (HSS), steel pipe, and electrical conduit.
