Nucor Berkeley Taps Primetals for Continuous Galv Line

Nucor has chosen Primetals Technologies to build a continuous galvanizing line (CGL) at its Nucor Steel Berkeley facility in Huger, S.C.
The new, automotive-grade CGL is designed for annual production of 500,000 tons, London-based Primetals said in a press release on March 29.
The line will increase Nucor’s galvanized production capacity and enable this sheet mill location to produce advanced, high-strength steel (AHSS) and other automotive products, Primetals added.
Nucor Steel Berkeley expects the first coil to be produced by mid-2025, according to the release. The move supports the Charlotte, N.C.-based steelmaker’s strategy to shift its product mix to higher-margin, value-added items.
Nucor announced the new line in September and said a second new line will also be constructed at one of its mills in the western US, but no further details have yet been released.
