Steel Shipments Up in Jan. vs. Dec.: AISI

US steel shipments rose 3.6% in January vs. December, but fell 7.9% year over year, according to the most recent figures from The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
Domestic steel mills shipped 7,148,270 net tons in January, up from 6,901,567 net tons shipped the prior month, but falling from the 7,757,807 net tons shipped in January 2022.
AISI said a comparison of January 2023 shipments to the same month a year earlier shows the following changes: hot-rolled sheet (-12%); cold-rolled sheet (-10%); and corrosion-resistant sheet and strip (-7%).
