Pipe and tube producers have notified customers this week of further price hikes in response to strong demand and higher costs for the flat-rolled and plate substrate they use to make their products.
On Tuesday, July 13, Chicago-based Atlas Tube raised prices on all new orders for mechanical, hollow structural section (HSS) and piling products by $125 per ton ($6.25 per cwt). The increase applies to all mechanical and HSS shapes up through 16” SQ (Square and Equivalent Rectangles), as well as all mechanical and HSS Rounds up through 20” OD. All orders currently on the books will be price protected for shipment through Aug. 9, 2021, the company said.
EXLTUBE informed customers on Monday, July 12, that it will increase prices for all A53B pipe products by $150 per net ton, effective immediately. A53 pipe is used for mechanical and pressure applications.
All orders on the books prior to the increase will be price protected for shipments through July 23, 2021, the company said.
Steel Market Update puts the average price for hot rolled coil at $1,820 per ton ($91 per cwt) this week, and plate at an average of $1,565 per ton ($78.25 per cwt)—both record highs.
