Tenaris to Restart Pennsylvania Operations

Tenaris will bring its Pennsylvania facilities back online as part of plans to expand operations across the Northeast U.S. The Koppel melt shop and Ambridge seamless pipe are slated for restart this summer.
“There are encouraging trends in the market from increases in production and oil prices to total demand. While taking a cautious approach, this presents an opportunity for us to power up our footprint to supply customers through a reliable, domestic value chain,” said Tenaris U.S. President Luca Zanotti. “Our plants in the Northeast remain central to this strategy.”
The Koppel plant is finalizing 2020 investment plans to upgrade steel bar size and add safety and automation improvements. Tenaris has since added to the investment by including new cranes, revamping of older cranes used to feed scrap metal into the furnace, and a new production management system. The $15 million investment is expected to be completed in May with operations to begin in June.
The Ambridge seamless mill, idled due to depressed market conditions, is scheduled to return to operations in late summer.
Tenaris will recall approximately 250 employees at the plants as well as hiring new team members. Tenaris has been expanding its workforce in Texas as well as in Hickman, Ark. About 1,000 new workers are expected to be added in the coming months.
Tenaris is a global manufacturer of pipe and related services serving energy and other industrial applications with operations in 16 countries.
