Air Liquide, a supplier of industrial gases, plans to invest more than $100 million to upgrade and extend its Gulf Coast pipeline by 28 miles to serve Steel Dynamics, Inc.’s planned minimill in Sinton, Texas.
Under the agreement with SDI, Air Liquide will install a new Air Separation Unit with the capacity to produce more than 770 tons per day of oxygen, as well as nitrogen and argon, to supply SDI’s new electric arc furnace. Construction of SDI’s new EAF mill, with three million tons of annual steelmaking capacity, was originally scheduled for completion in 2021, barring any coronavirus-related delays.
