Mill Steel to Consolidate Anderson Facility

Operations at Mill Steel Co.’s Anderson, Ind., facility are winding down as the service center moves to consolidate operations at its Jeffersonville, Ind., plant.
The two locations, just a couple hours apart, suffered from some redundancy, and the company determined it would be more efficient to service customers from the larger Jeffersonville facility, explained Mill Steel Senior Vice President Joe Poot.
“We don’t know what we are going to do with the Anderson facility yet, but other reports saying the closure was due to lackluster sales are simply not true. We are going to set another record this year with double-digit growth.”
All Anderson employees were offered jobs at other Mill Steel facilities. Equipment is also being relocated to other plants.
Mill Steel acquired the 215,000-square-foot Anderson facility as part of its January 2016 purchase of bankrupt S&S Steel Services.
Based in Grand Rapids, Mich., Mill Steel is one of the country’s leading carbon flat rolled distributors and processors with other locations in Detroit, Houston and Birmingham, Ala.
