Written by John Packard
July 10, 2019
The 2019 SMU Steel Summit Conference will be held at the Georgia International Convention Center (www.GICC.com) on Aug. 26-28, 2019. Here are some important items you need to know before booking, after booking and before you get to the conference.
SMU Steel Summit Conference – Status of Hotel Room Blocks
- Atlanta Airport Marriott Gateway (host hotel) – Totally sold out
- Atlanta Airport SpringHill Suites Gateway (across from GICC) – Room block sold out, hotel is sold out on Aug. 27.
- Renaissance Atlanta Airport Gateway – Hotel is sold out
- Atlanta Airport Marriott (located one exit south of venue, SMU to provide shuttle bus) – 45 rooms available on Aug. 26, 40 for Aug 27 and 4 for Aug. 28.
- We are looking at adding rooms either from the Westin (which is located across the street from the Atlanta Airport Marriott, the one that has rooms left and the shuttle). There is also an option of a close-by Holiday Inn.
- We will make the decision to add more rooms once the Marriott has been totally booked.
SMU Steel Summit Conference – Registrations Still Exceeding Expectations
- We are moving toward 850 executives registered for the conference. We put out a list of companies in Tuesday’s issue (it is also posted on our blog on the front of our website and in the events section). We continue to be optimistic that we will reach 1,000 attendees, making us the largest steel conference of its kind in North America (by far, almost double the closest contender).
- Here are some of the companies that registered after the list was compiled on July 9: Heidtman Steel, Plateplus, Inc., Lennox, Traulsen, Signode Packaging Systems, ArcelorMittal, Borcelik (Turkey), Steel Dynamics (more executives added), Nucor (more executives added), Norfolk Iron & Metal, High Steel Service Center and United Steel Global Trading Corp.
