SMU Steel Summit Conference: Dining in Atlanta
Written by Sandy Williams
June 14, 2019
In just nine weeks the SMU Steel Summit 2019 will begin in Atlanta, Ga. While you are in town, take some time to sample some of the superb cuisine Atlanta has to offer.
A Steel Market Update favorite is South City Kitchen, located in Midtown Atlanta and one of the outstanding Fifth Group Restaurants. South City Kitchen serves Southern cuisine with a sophisticated spin. Enjoy some of the best fried chicken and fried green tomatoes you have ever had and don’t miss the to-die-for shrimp and grits. Friendly service, great cocktails and superb food make it an evening to remember.
Alma Cocina offers delightful contemporary Mexican and Latin American cuisine with one of the most diverse tequila selections in Atlanta. Located on famous Peachtree Street, try the guacamole and salsa tasting and signature tacos or go for one of the main plates like Achiote Rubbed Pork Chop or Roasted Chicken Mole.
La Tavola, in the center of Atlanta’s historic Virginia-Highland neighborhood, is known for its authentic Italian cooking including incredible pasta dishes like tagliatelle Bolognese, fan-favorite mushroom tagliolini and squid ink spaghetti. Save room in your Italian trattoria dining experience for some gelato or cannoli for dessert.
Bones, rated the best steakhouse in Atlanta for years, has a long list of accolades to its name including “best of” ratings from Zagat, Wine Spectator and the New York Times. Located in the Buckhead area, Bones offers a classic menu of huge steaks and exquisite seafood.
Chops Lobster Bar is another Buckhead restaurant famed for its steaks, seafood and exceptional service. The menu offerings include Wagyu beef, lobsters and an extensive wine list.
If you are looking for something to stimulate more than your culinary senses, try Restaurant 356 located in the Porsche Experience Center. Enjoy locally sourced ingredients that excite the palate while savoring a prime view of the Porsche world-class 1.6 mile driver development track. Watching precision engineered Porsches whiz around the track may just inspire you to give it a try yourself. Experience “driving and dining in its finest form.” The Porsche Experience Center is located just a couple of miles from the Georgia International Convention Center and may be the closest fine dining experience to the venue. The restaurant came higly recommended from one of our past attendees who told SMU recently that he has been taking clients there after the cocktail parties conclude at the GICC. You may want to check into this one.
If you have a favorite restaurant in the Atlanta area please send it our way and we will attempt to share it with the attendees (probably through our App when we release it in mid-July). You can send your recommendation to info@SteelMarketUpdate.com
