CRU Aluminum Market Update Set for Atlanta on Aug. 28-29

Written by Sandy Williams

Strong and healthy competition has always existed between the steel and aluminum industries as each vies to capture and retain market share through innovation, advertising, pricing and other strategies. However, beyond this story of upstream competition, both materials are integral to a wide range of manufactured products and are widely purchased, fabricated and distributed by many of the same companies that are so integral to the fortunes of the U.S. manufacturing sector.

CRU is organizing its inaugural Aluminum Market Update conference directly following the SMU Steel Summit on Aug. 28 and 29 in the Atlanta Airport Marriott Gateway hotel and would like to invite those of you with a commercial or competitive interest in the aluminium industry to attend. The event includes a site visit to Bonnell Aluminum and a day and a half agenda featuring presentations on scrap, trade, primary markets, prices, premiums and the economy. Talks will be delivered by important U.S. aluminum stakeholders and analysts and provide a great opportunity to understand the latest view on the aluminum market, its performance relative to steel, and to benefit from networking.

Following the morning visit to Bonnell Aluminum on Wednesday, join us in the afternoon for discussion on price risk management and a workshop on raw materials and recycling. The day will conclude with a networking reception.

The Thursday agenda includes our keynote speaker, a look at the economy, impacts of trade policy on the U.S. industry, and the outlook on supply and demand. The afternoon discussions will include sessions on extrusion, electric vehicles, rolling mill investments, and the LME price forecast. See the registration site for the full agenda.

Register with CRU to attend this exciting new event for the aluminum industry. We know you will find it worthwhile.

CRU: Dollar and bond yields rise, metal prices fall as Trump wins election

Donald Trump has won the US presidential election. The Republican party has re-taken control of the Senate. Votes are still being counted in many tight congressional races. But based on results so far, the Republicans seem likely to maintain control of the House of Representatives. If confirmed, this will give Trump considerable scope to pass legislation pursuing his agenda. What this means for US policy is not immediately obvious. Trump will not be inaugurated until Jan. 20. In the coming weeks and months, he will begin to assemble his cabinet, which may give a clearer signal on his policy priorities and approaches. Based on statements he made during the presidential campaign, we have set out the likely direction of his economic policy here and green policy here.
