GM Recognizes Nucor and AK Steel as Suppliers of the Year

Nucor Corp. and AK Steel were each recognized as a Supplier of the Year for Non-Fabricated Steel at General Motors’ 27th annual awards ceremony in Detroit on May 15.
Recipients are chosen by a global team of GM purchasing, engineering, quality, manufacturing and logistics executives. Winners were selected based on performance criteria in Product Purchasing, Global Purchasing and Manufacturing Services, Customer Care and Aftersales, and Logistics.
“We hold our suppliers to a high bar,” said Steve Kiefer, GM senior vice president, Global Purchasing and Supply Chain. “They went above and beyond to deliver the innovations and quality that will help us earn customers for life.”

Nucor is the first electric arc furnace steelmaker to receive the recognition. Said John Ferriola, Chairman, CEO and President of Nucor, “We have made significant investments to expand our automotive product portfolio and are focused on providing exceptional customer service. As a result, we continue to gain share in this important market. We are honored to be recognized by GM, and we value the business they do with us.”
AK Steel has been recognized as GM Supplier of the Year for both 2018 and 2017. “It is a testimony to our innovative steel products and the outstanding product quality, delivery, service and support, which our team provides to General Motors each and every day,” said AK Steel CEO Roger Newport.

US drill rig activity saw a slight increase from last week but continues to hover near multi-year lows. In Canada, rig counts dipped last week but near one of the highest levels recorded in the past seven months.
Nucor (officially) holds plate prices steady again
Nucor said it would keep plate prices unchanged in a letter to customers on Wednesday. The Charlotte, N.C.-based steelmaker in addition said it was opening its November order book for plate. The company did not specify what its plate price was. It has officially kept prices flat since cutting them by $125 per short ton (st) on July 1.
