New Positions and Leaders at Steel Dynamics

Steel Dynamics has announced additions and changes to its senior leadership team. Two new positions have been created to support SDI’s presence in the Southwest and Mexico.
Miquel Alvarez will join Steel Dynamics in the new position of Senior Vice President, Southwest and Mexico. He will be responsible for the comprehensive business development and partnerships in the region, encompassing both steel and recycled metals. Alvarez comes to SDI from BlueScope Steel, serving as president of BlueScope Buildings North America since 2017 and president of North Star BlueScope Steel from 2010 to 2017. From 2004 to 2009, Alvarez served as President of Steelscape, Inc., a BlueScope subsidiary and domestic supplier of metallic-coated and pre-painted steel. He began his professional career in Monterrey, Mexico, working for a large steel processing company with locations throughout Mexico.
Glenn Pushis will leave his role as Senior Vice President, Long Products Steel, to assume the new position of Senior Vice President, Special Projects. Pushis will be responsible for the successful design and construction of the company’s planned new flat roll steel mill developed to serve the southwestern U.S. and Mexico. During his 25-year tenure with SDI, Pushis also oversaw the Butler Flat Roll Division and six flat roll coating facilities and was part of the team that constructed the Butler mill.
Christopher Graham will assume the role of Senior Vice President, Long Products Steel Group. Graham has served as Senior Vice President, Downstream Manufacturing and President of New Millennium Building Systems since 2016.
James Anderson, currently the Chief Operating Officer of New Millennium Building Systems, will assume the role of Vice President, Steel Fabrication and President, New Millennium Building Systems. Prior to his role as COO at New Millennium, Anderson was the general manager of SDI’s three flat roll galvanizing lines, The Techs.
All appointments are effective Feb. 1, 2019.

Trump says Nippon will ‘invest heavily’ in USS rather than buy it
Nippon Steel has agreed to “invest heavily in U.S. Steel as opposed to own it,” President Donald Trump said on Friday during a press conference with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.
