Nucor Selects Andritz for New HDG Line

Nucor has selected Austria’s Andritz Group to supply the new hot dip galvanizing line at its Hickman, Ark., mill. The new line, announced by Nucor in May, will have an annual capacity of approximately 455,000 metric tons and is designed to produce high-strength steel grades, mainly for the automotive industry. Start-up is scheduled for the first half of 2021.
Andritz will supply the complete HDG line, including the furnace with the latest annealing technology for high-strength steel grades (Generation 3 AHSS), as well as equipment for strip cleaning, strip transport, a skin pass mill, automation and start-up of the plant.
Andritz supplied the pickling line and rolling mills for Nucor’s new cold-rolling mill in Hickman last year. The two projects will help the Arkansas mill diversify its product mix and meet future demand for advanced high-strength steel products, the company said.
