Minor Fire at ArcelorMittal Indiana Harbor
Written by Tim Triplett
November 7, 2018
ArcelorMittal expects no disruption in service as a result of a minor fire at its Indiana Harbor 4 Steel Producing (4SP) operation on Monday afternoon. One employee was treated for minor burns following a fire that resulted when slag was dumped onto an area containing water.
“Indiana Harbor 4SP remains in production, and we do not anticipate any impact on operations or our ability to meet customer demand,” said the company in a statement.
Local fire departments responded to the scene and quickly extinguished the flames. The incident is being investigated by the company and union management and is believed to be the result of procedural violations.
