NLMK USA Sales Flat in Q1

NLMK announced operating results for first-quarter 2018. NLMK Group steel output totaled 4.33 million metric tons, a 3 percent increase year-over-year. Group sales totaled 4.15 million metric tons, up 13 percent from Q1 2017. Capacity utilization grew 3 percentage points to 99 percent for the quarter. Steel slab sales to NLMK USA and NLMK Dansteel increased 86 percent from fourth to first quarter.
NLMK USA sales were relatively flat for the first quarter, improving 1 percent from the fourth quarter and declining 2 percent from first-quarter 2017. Total sales tonnage was 553,000 metric tons.
NLMK financial results will be released Tuesday, April 24.

SDI presses on with steel, aluminum investments

SDI posts lower Q3 profit, sees better times in ’25
Steel Dynamics Inc. (SDI) reported a drop in third-quarter profits driven largely by lower flat-rolled steel prices. The Fort Wayne, Ind.-based electric arc furnace (EAF) steelmaker also saw scrap prices slip. That happened because of softer demand from domestic mills taking planned maintenance outages.
