Selected Domestic Steel Mill Lead Times

We are getting mixed messages regarding “real” lead times coming out of the domestic steel mills. The information we are sharing below comes from actual mill lead times coming directly from the producing mills to their customers. This is different than the lead time averages collected by Steel Market Update and shared with our readers last week after we had concluded our most recent analysis of the flat rolled steel industry.
Below is a sampling of a few domestic steel mill lead times as presented to their customers within the past few working days:
Nucor Berkeley
Hot Rolled – Week ending May 20th for 48”-54” (7-8 weeks), Week ending May 27th for wider than 54” (8-9 weeks).
Cold Rolled – Week ending May 20th for 48” to 54” (7-8 weeks), Week ending May 27th for wider than 54” (8-9 weeks).
Galvanized – Inquire all items.
Steel Dynamics Industries – Columbus
Hot Rolled – April Closed
Cold Rolled – April Closed
Galvanized – Week of April 24th (4-5 weeks)
Painted Galvanized or Galvalume – Inquire

SMU Survey: Steel Buyers’ Sentiment Indices stable to start 2025
Both SMU Steel Buyers' Sentiment Indices remain in positive territory, indicating that steel buyers are optimistic about the success of their businesses.
SMU Survey: Mill lead times short and steady to start 2025
Buyers participating in our first market survey of 2025 reported a slight decline in mill lead times compared to our last survey in mid-December. After rising moderately in early December, lead times edged lower through this week and are now only slightly above the lows seen back in July and November. Overall, production times have remained historically short since last summer, with minimal movement since then.
