December 27, 2016
The following Comparison Price Indices (CPI) is analyzing prices supplied to the steel industry for the week ending December 23rd and does not include price changes from this week.
At the end of this past week both Platts and Steel Market Update had hot rolled prices as averaging $595 per ton ($29.75/cwt). SteelBenchmarker did not produce new steel prices last week so they were removed from the weekly analysis since their out of date numbers would impact our averages.
Cold rolled was up $5 per ton to $805 per ton at Steel Market Update while Platts remained the same at $810 per ton. Our average was up $3 per ton to $808 per ton ($40.40/cwt).
SMU saw galvanized numbers as being up $15 per ton compared to the week ending December 16th. The $884 per ton number is for .060” G90 and includes the $69 per ton extra for coating.
We also saw Galvalume as being $20 per ton higher than the prior week. The $1111 per ton price is based on .0142″ AZ50 Grade 80 which carries $291 per ton in extras.
Plate prices remained the same at $590 per ton (Platts).
