December 1, 2016
Late in the day on Wednesday, Nucor and NLMK USA advised their customers of their intention to raise spot flat rolled prices by an additional $40 per ton. This follows ArcelorMittal’s announcement on Tuesday of specific minimum base price levels of $600 per ton hot rolled, $820 per ton cold rolled and coated steel products (galvanized & Galvalume).
This is now the 4th price announcement made by Nucor and NLMK USA since late October 2016.
In the case of NLMK USA they announced $30 per ton on October 24, 2016, another $30 per ton on November 8th before providing specific base price levels to their customers on November 15th of $560 per ton on hot rolled and $780 per ton on cold rolled and coated steels. With this $40 per ton increase NLMK USA will be at the same minimum base price levels as ArcelorMittal – $600 per ton ($30.00/cwt) on hot rolled and $820 per ton ($41.00/cwt) on cold rolled as well as coated products.
Nucor, on the other hand, raised prices on Wednesday by $40 per ton. Since October 21st Nucor has increased flat rolled prices by $200 per ton ($10.00/cwt). Nucor was up $30 on October 21st, another $30 on November 8th and $40 on November 15th.
