I am in Atlanta and if you see me walking aimlessly about town on Friday, Saturday and Sunday with a glassy look in my eyes it is because the kickoff of our 6th Steel Summit Conference is on Monday. We are essentially sold out, every seat in the house should be filled. We have an exceptional program and we expect our attendees will enjoy the variety and depth of our speakers as well as the networking opportunities.
When at the conference please take a moment to share your thoughts with us. We will have an area set up with a photographer where you can leave us a testimonial about the conference, newsletter or one of our workshops. We will also have a roving camera taking candid shots and getting real time comments.
The App will be used during the conference – please download it and play with it a little bit before you get to the conference. If you need help: Brett@SteelMarketUpdate.com. There are a number of comments in the Activity Feed section. Check the Agenda and look for polling questions that you might be able to answer before arriving.
You can use the camera feature by going to the Activity Feed section and then clicking on the pen and paper logo in the top right hand corner of the screen. From there you can click on the camera icon, take a picture and then write a comment about the photo which will be shared with everyone who is registered. To publish the photo and comments click the check mark at the top right hand corner of the screen.
If you are not registered for the conference you are able to download the App but you will not be able to use the App as each conference is password protected.
I am going to keep this short this evening as we have more work to do on the conference…
As always your business is truly appreciated by all of us here at Steel Market Update.

That’s not to say Section 232 shouldn’t be tightened up. Or that certain trade practices – even among our traditional allies – weren’t problematic. But when it comes to the reboot of Section 232, I do wonder whether there will be some unintended consequences.

Final Thoughts
As February comes to a close this week, the scrap markets are poised for another – and perhaps more extreme – move upward in March. March is usually a month when scrap prices relent as winter’s impediments subside. That’s not the case this year. And this time, the driver of prices will be increased demand from mills along with restricted flows over the last two months.

Final Thoughts
The US steel market has whipsawed upward on the prospect of expanded Section 232 tariffs of 25% being applied to imported steel - including downstream goods - on March 12. It seems pretty clear that domestic steel mills have the ear of the Trump administration when it comes to Section 232. The result? The much-anticipated Trump bump has finally arrived - and then some.

Final Thoughts
Some of you have told me that the current market feels about as crazy as early 2021 when demand snapped back after the initial outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. Others have said it might be more like late February/early March 2022, when Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine – and, in the process, caused […]

To say we’ve entered a “Brave New World” since Jan. 20 might be an exaggeration, but we’ve definitely entered a different one.
