To everyone who was in New York City for the Steel Success Strategies conference or other meetings surrounding the conference, welcome home.
I was quite pleased to hear that our Steel Summit Conference was being discussed in the halls and streets of New York. If everyone who told me they (or their company) were coming does indeed register, our conference will rival SSS as one of the most attended and best networking events of the year. I encourage everyone interested to register, which you can do either on our website or through our offices, and don’t forget to make your hotel reservations as we believe the hotel will sell out well before our conference (there is a second hotel also run by Marriott across the street).
Here are some of the companies who have registered for our Steel Summit Conference over the last couple of weeks. Those with an asterisk (*) are sending multiple executives:
Honda North America*, Crown Equipment*, Nucor*, Wallner Expac*, Honda Trading*, CTB, Matandy Steel & Metal Products*, The Bradbury Group, Ingram Barge*, Overhead Door*, Hartree Partners*, Steel Insights, LLC, Preston Publishing, Andes Coil Processors, Ohio Coatings Company*, North Star BlueScope, Alabama Metal Industries, Coil Plus*, Precoat Metals*, Olympic Steel, Ryerson, Steel Technologies. We are currently 120 registrations ahead of the pace from last year when we had almost 300 attendees.
You can register on our website: www.SteelMarketUpdate.com and click on the Steel Summit link in the Events section or you are welcome to contact our offices at: 800-432-3475 or by email at: info@SteelMarketUpdate.com. If you are registering more than one person use this link to make sure you receive the multi-person discount. SMU member companies also receive a $100 per person discount as part of your membership. Details are on the website in the registration area as to how to receive the member discount.
If you have any questions, if you would like a copy of our schedule to send to a friend in the industry or if you have any needs what-so-ever please do not hesitate to contact our office for help: 800-432-3475.
As always your business is truly appreciated by all of us here at Steel Market Update.

Some of you have told me that the current market feels about as crazy as early 2021 when demand snapped back after the initial outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. Others have said it might be more like late February/early March 2022, when Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine – and, in the process, caused […]

To say we’ve entered a “Brave New World” since Jan. 20 might be an exaggeration, but we’ve definitely entered a different one.

Final Thoughts
I think it’s fair to say that the last few weeks – and last week especially – have been among the most intense for any of us covering steel (or aluminum).

A look at how SMU survey respondents are reacting to President Trump's recent actions on tariffs.

Final Thoughts
A lot of the changes basically entail rolling back what I’ll call, for fun, Section 232 Lite. S232 Lite resulted from watering down what I’ll call OG S232 – the one first imposed in March 2018 - with exemptions and exclusions over the years. Now, OG Section 232, is back with its across-the-board 25% tariffs against everyone.
