Cliffs Negotiations Take Break Until Late February

Written by Sandy Williams

Contract negotiations are continuing at Cliffs Natural Resources but still moving slowing according to an update to members by the USW.

Negotiators returned to the bargaining table last week and said progress had been made on health care issues for active and retired workers.

The negotiating teams will take a short break and return to the bargaining table in late February.

The USW urged workers to be patient, “We know that this is a difficult time for our industry, and we know that many members are growing restless with the slow pace of these negotiations. It is your solidarity that will make the difference in these negotiations. We ask you to continue to stand with us, keep in touch with your local officers and CAT coordinators, and keep working safely. We will keep everyone informed as talks continue.”

The recent ratification of a three-year contract with US Steel is hoped to spur successful negotiations at Cliffs and at ArcelorMittal.
