Social medita is becoming an even larger forum for getting information to those who want it – and who want it quickly. We use our own blog which you can access from the Home Page (or any other page) from our website. We blog about lots of items which do not make it into the newsletter.
Did you know that you can post our blog posts on your Twitter account, facebook page, LinkedIn page, Google+, etc? You also have the ability to “rate” our blog posts by clicking on the number of stars you feel it deserves at the end of our post.
We want the message to get out and we encourage our readers to RT (re-tweet) out tweets that we run through Twitter. Our account is #SMUsteel and we are currently tweeting a lot about our #SteelSummitConference and we encourage you to do the same.
In LinkedIn I have my own personal page as well as a company page and a LinkedIn Group. Our group name is cleverly called: Steel Market Update. If you enjoy something we are posting please “Like” it so the search engines can see that the post is driving traffic and people like what is being provided.
Our new “App” which will be rolled out in early August for our Steel Summit Conference will allow those at the conference to post on social media directly from the app. This will be something we will talk about in more detail to those who have registered in the coming weeks.
Speaking of registration we are already pushing close to the total number of registrations that we had for last year’s conference. We are expecting a record setting crowd with the vast majority of attendees being manufacturing or distribution companies (but not all). We have a large number of new attending companies coming this year – both large and small. We have posted the names of the companies registered through the end of this past week on our website in the Steel Summit Conference section. If you would like to register and take advantage of our early bird rates you can do so by clicking here or calling our office at: 800-432-3475 (706-216-5440).
If you enjoy Steel Market Update please don’t hesitate to tell the social media world about us.
As always your business is truly appreciated by all of us here at Steel Market Update.

From one group of folks, I’ve heard that Trump might not wait until Feb. 1 – the date he threatened on to place tariffs on China, Canada, and Mexico. They say he could act as soon as Friday. And then there are those who don’t think anything will happen before April 1. That’s the deadline for Commerce, Treasury, and USTR to submit key reports on “America First Trade Policy” to President Trump.
Final Thoughts
Trump made a clarification in a speech on Monday. Previously, he had declared the word “tariff” the most beautiful word in the dictionary. No longer.
Final Thoughts
President Donald Trump on Sunday hammered Colombia with 25% tariffs and threatened to increase them to 50%. Trump in a post on Truth Social said he took the action not because of a trade dispute but because the South American nation had refused to accept planes carrying deported immigrants. The president also cited "national security" concerns, just as he did to justify 25% Section 232 tariffs on steel in his first term. Even the 50% threat echoes his first term. Turkish steel, like that of most nations, was assessed a 25% tariff in March 2018. Trump doubled Turkey's tariff to 50% via a tweet in August of that year over a matter unrelated to steel.

We surveyed many of you this week and asked what you wanted to see from the new Trump administration. Responses were varied but fell largely into three groups: tariffs and trade policy, the Nippon-U.S. Steel deal, and those who are concerned about too much government sway in steel. Some also expressed hope that President Trump would continue the infrastructure spending that began under former President Biden.
Final Thoughts
Sometimes new presidential administrations hit the ground running. No time for change like the present. And sometimes new administrations blast off on a SpaceX rocket bound for Mars. There’s a big universe, and we’ve got a lot of flags to plant. Such seems to be the case with the new Trump administration.
