Roof Collapse at Sparrows Point Injures Demolition Crew

Nine workers were injured on Monday when a roof collapsed at the former Bethlehem Steel (RG Steel) plant in Sparrows Point. The plant is in the process of being dismantled by Hilco Global and demolition contractor MCM Management Corp.
The roof caved in around 10 am as workers were tearing down the building. Fire department officials said the roof collapsed in the middle, a cantilever collapse, which may have saved lives. A worker on the scene described the collapse as a “domino-type effect,” according to report by the Baltimore Sun.
The 13 workers in the building at the time were able to get out but four of the nine who were injured suffered serious to critical injuries.
“MCM is focused on the recovery of its nine workers and asks the public to keep them and their families in their thoughts and prayers,” said MCM in a statement.
