Comparison Price Indices: All Even
Written by John Packard

For the first time in what seems like forever, the four indexes followed by Steel Market Update, as well as our own, have benchmark hot rolled coil at the same average during the same week. Hot rolled coil was reported by all indexes this past week at $675 per ton ($33.75/cwt). The similarities stopped there, however, as cold rolled, galvanized, Galvalume and plate had spreads between the various indexes of at least $10 per ton or more.
What is important are the numbers have dropped on hot rolled, galvanized and Galvalume this past week with Steel Orbis and Platts leading the way on hot rolled.
FOB Points for each index:
SMU: Domestic Mill, East of the Rockies.
CRU: Midwest Mill, East of the Rockies.
SteelBenchmarker: Domestic Mill, East of the Mississippi.
SteelOrbis: Midwest Domestic Mill.
Platts: Within 200-300 mile radius of Northern Indiana Domestic Mill.
