Kloeckner Metals Co. announced the opening of a new light gauge flat rolled processing center at the ThyssenKrupp Steel USA plant site in Calvert, Alabama. The service center will provide toll processing for ThyssenKrupp Steel USA based on a long-term, owner-independent exclusive contract.
The 100,000 square foot facility will offer slitting first and will later expand to include cut-to-length, blanking and multi-blanking operations. The facility will have the ability to expand to 400,000 square feet.
The processing center is also expected to drive expansion into the automotive industry with the processing of advanced high strength steels.
“Our German subsidiary Becker Stahl-Service has earned a name for high quality and efficient production in the market. Now we also want to increasingly benefit from this expertise in America – thereby building on business relations already existing in Europe,” said Gisbert Rühl, CEO of Klöckner & Co SE.
