Our Steel 101 workshop for Columbus, Mississippi is sold out. We will advise when our next workshop is available for registration. We hope to put on a total of four workshops this year. We will leave the program on our website so you can learn more about it but just note our registration is full.
We have just booked the date for our next Managing Price Risk workshop – which is on understanding hot rolled and scrap futures and options markets. The next workshop will be held in New York City on Friday, April 26, 2013 at the CME Group (NYMEX) building which is across the street from 1 World Trade Center and within view of the Statue of Liberty. We hope to have the program and registration online within the next week or so. If you would like more information before the events section of the website is updated you are welcome to contact our office: Info@SteelMarketUpdate.com or 800-432-3475.
I got a note from LinkedIn that my profile is one of the 1% most viewed (just mine and 2 million others out of their 200 million members…). It’s nice to be recognized. My LinkedIn steel group continues to grow with approximately 1,100 members – and no steel offers in the discussions… The group name is easy to remember: Steel Market Update. It’s free.
I have a strange question for you. Our designers are working on special graphing software which is being built into our website. Our members will be able to utilize the software when interacting with our data. If there is a type of graph that you like to use – let me know what that is so – especially if it is an odd one – so we can make sure it is programmed into the site. We already have pie chart and line chart covered…
Our designers are also working on a new advanced multi-level Price Estimator for us. For this reason we are not going to adjust the base prices on the existing Price Estimator for a week or two as we do some special testing on our new product. When the new website comes up it is our intention to have three levels of access to the Price Estimator – Public – Members – and Premium Members.
By the way – if you are thinking about becoming a member or expanding your membership – now is an excellent time to do so – before the new website comes up.
As always your business is truly appreciated – tell your friends about us.

Price gap between domestic, offshore CRC narrows
The price spread between US-produced cold-rolled (CR) coil and offshore products tightened in the week ended Jan. 17. In our market check on Tuesday, Jan. 14, US CR coil prices averaged $895 […]

SMU’s average domestic HR price last week was $685 per short ton (st), down $5/st from the week before. US hot band […]
