Pat Mullarkey, New Plant Manager at Fairfield Tubular Operations

U.S. Steel announced today that Patrick J. Mullarkey has been named the new plant manager of Fairfield Tubular Operations in Birmingham, Ala. Mullarkey will succeed Dennis Quirk who has retired following 36 years of service.
“Dennis has served our company well during times of critical change with his extensive and varied operations experiences in both our Tubular and Flat-Rolled organizations and has exhibited an extraordinary commitment to our safety program throughout his 36 year career. We wish him and his family all the best in his retirement,” said Douglas R. Matthews, senior vice president – Tubular Operations.
Mullarkey began his steel career in 1981 with Inland Steel in East Chicago, Ind. In 1994 he joined Raytheon Engineers & Constructors as lead engineer for the blast furnace reline division.
In 2000 Mullarkey was hired by U.S. Steel as the manager of operating and maintenance at the South Blast Furnaces at Gary Works. After completion of the #14 Blast Furnace construction project in2005, he was transferred to U.S. Steel Pittsburgh headquarters to serve as director-engineering project development. In 2007 he was named vice president technology at U.S. Steel Kosice (USSK) in the Slovak Republic and became vice president of USSK in 2009. In 2010 he assumed presidency of United Spiral Pipe LLC.
“Pat’s broad operations experience throughout the company, particularly in the welded pipe business, coupled with his strong leadership skills makes him an excellent addition to the U. S. Steel Tubular Products leadership team,” said Matthews.
