SMU Adds Peter Wright to Our Newsletter/Website Team

Steel Market Update is adding more strength to our newsletter and website team. Peter Wright will be joining SMU in a writing/analysis capacity with special emphasis on the development of steel and economic indicators which will be of value in forecasting future steel needs in both the flat and long product segments of the industry.
We have come to know Peter as a pivotal member of our Steel 101 team utilizing his 52 years of steel making, sales and marketing and economic analysis which meshes very well with the rest of our instructors.
Peter’s work background is truly extraordinary. He has over 52 years in the steel industry with experience in quality engineering, metallurgy, product development, sales, marketing, and corporate and operations management at firms in both the U.K. and the U.S. Here are just a few of the highlights from his career:
- Graduate in Metallurgical Engineering from Manchester University (UK) Institute of Science and Technology
- Fellow of the American Society of Materials
- Fellow of the Institute of Materials (UK) and a Chartered Engineer (UK)
- Member of the National Association of Business Economics
- First ever non-forger to Chair the Forging Industry Association technical committee.
- Trustee of the Forging Industry Education and Research Foundation for 11 Years and its President for 3 years
- Member of the American Iron and Steel Institute Long Products Market Development Committee for 10 years and Chairman for 3 years
- 2007 received the American Institute of Steel Construction special achievement award
- Dale Carnegie instructor in human relations and public speaking for 5 years
- Steel positions held: Chief Metallurgist for British Steel Corporation (wire rod group), Metallurgical Manager Sheerness Steel, Quality Control Superintendent of Chaparral Steel, VP of Sales for Chaparral Steel, VP of Bar Products Business Unit of Chaparral Steel, Marketing Director of TXI Chaparral Steel, Marketing Director of Gerdau North America.
- In September 2010 Peter started Steel Market Analysis, Inc. and performs contract services for Gerdau, the State of Wyoming Business Development Council and SMU Steel 101 workshop.

Nucor keeps HRC price unchanged
